Video: Flying above Torrey Pines at 8 mph
The first day of July has been sublime.
The marine layer burned off early and temperatures quickly rose into the low 70s along the San Diego County coast. The winds were also very light, keeping clouds and haze far offshore. This paraglider pilot was videotaped at the Torrey Pines Gliderport, near the Salk Institute. He was flying about 330 feet above the beach, traveling 8-10 mph. The breeze out of the southwest barely caused flags to flicker. Similar conditions will prevail along the coast throughout the Fourth of July weekend. But temps will shoot into the 90s across inland valleys and foothills, and as high as 115 degrees at Borrego Springs and Octotillo Wells.
