Durbin to speak at Dems dinner
Logan County Democrats will host U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin at their “Summer Picnic Chicken Dinner” on July 29.
The dinner, open to the public, will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln.
Durbin, a Springfield Democrat, will be the main speaker at 6:30 p.m. Jill Morganthaler, co-chair of the Illinois Democratic Women, will also speak. Other dignitaries will be recognized during the dinner.
The gathering will include a drawing for a door prize, a 50/50 drawing and raffle tickets for a Remington 870 Express Supermag Turkey and Waterfowl 12 gauge shotgun will be available.
Durbin is the majority whip in the U.S. Senate.
"The senator is a busy man, being the majority whip of the Senate, and tried to work in a bipartisan with members of the Senate to deal with the crisis of debt-ceiling and other important issues," said Rebecca Drake, the new Logan County Democratic Chair. “We are very privileged that he is able to spend some of his time with the citizens of Logan County. This is a testament to his sincere concern for his own constituency here in Illinois. Senator Durbin never forgets the people back home.”
Tickets at $20 each are available from Democratic precinct committee captains or at the door the evening of the event.
