AHS Cheerleaders National Cheerleaders Association Camp
The AHS Cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Camp held at the University of Sioux Falls on 11 and 12 June Cheer teaches instructors across the country in the camp which focused on the precision of movement, dance choreography, school spirit and rickets. There were about 125 girls in the camp of the surrounding schools.During two days, the team of six members, learned a lot about teamwork and optimism, earning them a trophy and a title for the "Most Improved Squad." "I am extremely proud of them," said coach Danielle Miller."We were the smallest team there, and girls showed the confidence and pride dragon in the whole camp!"
The last day of camp, the girls had to perform three cheers and songs with choreography for the remaining members of the camp. The team received high marks for their Cheer and a score higher than their singing.
Each girl got to the house of a blue ribbon. The girls also won a spirit stick for their enthusiasm throughout the camp. "The team had a great time and can hardly wait to cheer for football games," said Amber Preuss, who was nominated for "All-American Cheerleader" for his great leaps.
Camps like the one held at the USF are beneficial for our students because girls are exposed to new cheers. They are able to discover what the major schools work squads, giving them new ideas and goals. "It was a great experience and I really think we all improved from the camp," said Odell Brooklyn. Haperi Anna said, "I hope we can come back next year!"
The girls are now planning a car wash fundraiser to be held in August, and also for their night's Cheer Youth to be held Friday, Sept. 9. Good Job Girls!
