Locals share feelings, memories about their first vehicles
After receiving several comments from readers on Facebook, Big Fun decided to ask a related question on people's memories, both good and bad, of their first car or truck.
Among the many responses, here's a sampling of some of them sent to us via email and on Facebook.
Shae Thibodeaux of Chauvin: "My first car was a '89 Lincoln Town Car The" stinking Lincoln "was baby blue with pink hub caps spinning Walmart and a sports car spoiler The roof was cut, so when you pressed the breaks real .. hard when it rained, you had a wave crashing towards you.Also my muffler fell on the road, so it sounded like a ship of mud. And my radiator was broken, so I had to carry water bottles with me everywhere I went. Although my car was a peace of junk I had some of the best moments of my life behind the wheel of my Lincoln stinking! "
David J. Welcome to Houma, "My first car was a 1963 Mercury Meteor was a white four-door with a black interior I bought it for $ 1 from a bartender we called Mr. Flop It had to be towed home .... I cleaned inside and out even if the engine would barely run I found 60 cents in change while cleaning the car -. almost all my money back!I was only 15 years. I removed the V8 engine and automatic transmission and installed a 6-cylinder inline engine with a manual transmission removed from a 67 Ford Falcon. I had to add a change of soil and clutch petals. I ran for a while and then redesigned the V8 engine myself with parts I bought at JC Whitney. I installed the V8 and left the transmission standard with the transition to the ground. I installed a cassette 8-track with speakers installed on hold at the back of shag carpet covered bridge. Adding a leaf spring lift kit and tires back off. It was great. It was done without any adult supervision or assistance.The best thing is that it helped me find my innate talent and led to a lifelong vocation as a diesel mechanic / thermal transfer professional. Kept me out of trouble as a teenager too!
