Knights end scoring drought

Corvallis - It took a while.

Six innings, to be exact.

Fifteen if you count the last nine rounds of the loss of Kitsap Wednesday.

This is how long it was in the race for the Corvallis Knights.

The Knights of Kelowna related to the seventh, then blew open in the eighth for a 5-1 West Coast League victory Friday night at Goss Stadium.

The positive results were there, but the trails were few and far between.

"It was a little frustrating, a stretch there, a couple of innings where we could not score," Corvallis' Ryan Gorton said."We were getting guys, but we were not coming up with clutch hits, especially with two outs. Yeah, it feels good to finally get one. "

That did not stop the Knights to win games with defense and pitching, but it can come back to bite them as it did against Kitsap.

The Knights lost the game 8-2 in 11 races after taking a 2-0 lead in the second.

Corvallis (22-13 overall, 20-13 in CMT) had 10 hits in that game and 11 in Friday's victory.

Kelowna (10-24) took a 1-0 lead in the third when Ryan Stoup scored third on a wild land.

The lead held until the end of the seventh, when Corey Davis lined up in the middle with two outs to score David Andriese.

The Knights took control of the eighth. David Armendariz led off with a single and scored on Ryan Gorton twice.

Gorton hit a long line drive that fell just over the left field line foul.

"They were kind of trying to make me work with curveballs and off-the speed of things and I saw a hanger, it was up in the area and a good place to hit and I put a good swing on it, "said Gorton." Fortunately, David ran through the stop sign at third and scored to go ahead."

Gorton finally scored on a throwing error on a hit by Andriese. Scott Kramer walked and Corey Moore lashed a drive deep into center to score both runners base.

Moore had to wait while the Falcons switched pitchers and said he was supposed to go to a tightening of security.
